Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns
Make-up by Nikki Gooley
Superman Returns make-up designer Nikki Gooley didn’t want Kate Bosworth to look like she had a “face full of make-up“ since the actress is just 23.
Bosworth’s clean-faced Lois Lane looks quite different from Margot Kidder’s character in the 1978 Superman; the heavier paint gave Kidder a cynical and strongly sexual look.
Gooley's make-up for this publicity shot is very similar to what Bosworth wore in the Daily Planet scenes. “I wanted her to be as natural as possible so the make-up didn’t override her purpose at work, but at the same time gave her a level of sophistication.”
Gooley added a glow. “The D.P. was so anti-shine, even on lip gloss. So sometimes I’d take it off then sneak it back on later!”
Skin care: Dr. Hauschka cleanser, Dermalogica toner, Crème de la Mer moisturizer. “Kate has great skin but it is prone to being sensitive.”
Foundation: Alternated between Prescriptives in Warm Champagne, Joe Blasco in Shinto 2, and Stephanie Marais in 01 and 03. “It was shot in high-def and the color temp seemed to vary on her skin.” Applied with a brush then blended with another brush and sponge.
Shading: MAC Studio Fix C4
Concealer: Shu Uemura spot concealer and YSL Touche Eclat
Powder: MAC Studio Fix and Blot Powder
Cheeks: Stila Rose cream blush
Eye shadow: MAC Omega
Eye liner: Bobbi Brown in the pot, Black, applied somewhat thickly
Brows: Visiora Brown and Grey powder in the quad
Mascara: Bobbi Brown only on top, two coats
Lips: Stila lipstick in Jo and Ava just blotted on, then Rose Lip Balm
Working with this face: “I just tried to stay natural to Kate’s face, highlighting her apple cheeks and luscious lips.”

For her date look skin prep and base is the same. Tarra used NARS Body Glow all over Kate's arms and chest for an extra glow. She also mixed it with her cheek color. Brows were filled in with a taupe colored pencil. For eyes: Stila Delaunay on lids, Stila Soleil all over eye, and a natural iridescent color like Stila's Kitten or Moonlight on the brow bone, and a darker color in the crease like Twig or Barefoot. Eyes were lined with Stila's Irma La Duce powder along upper and lower lash line. On lips Make Up For Ever Palette #1 in L-110 and T-01 with Stila Lip Shine in Pink Shine applied to center of lips.
